How it works

How to crop a PDF

Trim white margins or uniform borders from every page — free, no signup. Use one margin value on all edges or set custom top, right, bottom, and left millimetre values.

One crop setting shrinks every page to the trimmed size (margins follow the page as displayed, including rotation). Links and form fields stay when possible. The first-page preview shows a trim overlay on your real PDF page; other pages use the same mm margins. Scanned black borders need a large enough margin.

Margins, scans, and gotchas: How to crop a PDF.

  1. Upload the PDF to Crop PDF.
  2. Choose Uniform margins or Custom per side.
  3. Enter margin values in millimetres and review the first-page preview trim overlay.
  4. Click Crop PDF and download {filename}-cropped.pdf.
Why browser processing & tips

Why process PDFs in your browser?

Most PDF sites upload your file to a remote server first. That adds wait time, queueing, and means your document passes through infrastructure you do not control. LokaPDF crops PDF margins entirely in your browser — file content is not uploaded to our servers. Per-page different crop sizes are not supported in the web tool. The tool works on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, and Android with no install.

Remove scanner bed borders, tighten slides for print, or clip consistent bleed on forms.

Tips

  • Start with small margins — large crops can clip headers and footers; margins that leave too little page (based on your PDF size) are blocked.
  • Custom per side helps when only the top scan shadow needs trimming.
  • On rotated pages, Top/Left match what you see on screen — not the raw MediaBox edges.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Crop PDF free online?

Yes — trim margins free with no signup. Apply uniform margins or custom top/right/bottom/left values to every page in one pass.

Are margins applied to every page?

Yes. One crop setting applies to the whole document — uniform mode uses one value per edge; custom mode lets each side differ (e.g. larger top margin).

How does cropping work in the PDF?

Each page’s content is shifted and its MediaBox/CropBox resized to the trimmed size, so cut margins fall outside the visible page. Margins follow the page as you see it (including rotated pages). Links and form fields are kept when possible. The preview shows your first page with a trim overlay; other pages use the same mm margins. Scanned pages with a black scanner bed need a large enough margin or a black border will remain.

Can I crop each page to a different size?

Not in the web tool — one margin set covers all pages. If pages have different sizes, the same mm values still apply to each; overflow checks use the smallest page. Per-page cropping needs manual editing in another PDF tool.

Will cropping remove headers, footers, or scan borders?

Trimming edges can clip headers, footers, or bleed. For white scan borders start with 5–10 mm uniform margins and increase gradually. Margins that leave too little page (based on your PDF’s real page size) are blocked before processing. Operators outside the new page may still exist in the file even though viewers clip them.

Does LokaPDF upload my file for Crop PDF?

No. LokaPDF processes your PDF locally in the browser — file content is not sent to our servers. Your document stays on your device, including on public or work networks.
